Fraser Hill Birding 2-3 Oct 1999
Birding at waterfall area

As usual, we stopped at the waterfall area before the Gap Rest house. A
variety of bubuls can often be seen here. During this trip, we found the
Asian Paradise Flycatcher and Asian Fairy Bluebird among other species
at this area.
Tim and Martin

The birding party met Tim Appleton (left) and Martin (right) from the U.K.
They were there before going on to the BirdLife International Meeting later
in Awarna. Mr Ooi (centre), the leader for this birding trip, helped to
show them the favourite birding spots in Fraser Hill. This photo was taken
at the foodstalls near the Fraser Hill Nature Education Centre.
Birding at rubbish dump

No birding trip to Fraser Hill is complete without checking out at the
rubbish dump. Even a little bit of rain, occasional leeches and the odour
did not deter serious birders from this place.
Birding at rubbish dump

Three expert birders looking for interesting sighting.
Verditer Flycatcher

This is a female Verditer Flycatcher found at the rubbish dump. They are
invariably found there and could be approached very near for photography.
Asian Paradise Flycatcher

This bird at the rubbish dump, also a female, is much more shy than the
Verditer Flycatcher. A variety of flycatchers, drongos and other birds
could often be sighted at the rubish dump.
Birding at Telecoms Loop

The Telecoms Loop is another must for birding trips to Fraser Hill. During
this trip, we saw a Red-headed Trogon among other birds. This photo was
taken during the last big bird wave of the day just before we had to reluctantly
rush off due to the ever heavier rain.
Large Niltava

This female Large Niltava was sighted at the foodstalls near the Fraser
Hill Nature Education Centre. This was a place you are likely to encounter
bird waves even while eating your food.
